An experienced weaver here carefully picks out his colors of yarns as he plans his next weaving.

The finished rug displayed for final inspection before being flown to the States. This particular weaving was unbelievably precise. All of the lines and color shadings were perfect. The weaver had an unusual process for keeping his weavings lines straight and the rug tight during the weaving process. He used a car tire jack on the wheel of his loom to keep the tension as tight as possible. A custom weaving commission like this will cost approximately $1150. This particular weaving contains a Jose Sosa Signature Design.

Pictured here is Josefina Jimenez perhaps the only full-time female weaver in Oaxaca. I should mention it was rare for women of Teotitlan del Valle to be full-weavers before the 1970's. Traditionally women were given the duties of carding, spinning and washing the wool in addition to their family duties. Now women take an active part in weaving though there are still few full time weavers.
