Detailed Description
This beautiful weaving is one of the most colorful rugs we carry. The design is called a thousand stars and is woven by one of the few full time women weavers in the village. The only female weaver that I represent  and have continued to represent for the last 14 years.

It is certainly not the norm for a woman to be a weaver, merchant and the head of household in Zapotec culture. But, a series of unlucky family tragedies put her in just that position. Not only has she become a masterful weaver, she is highly respected by all Teotilan del Valle for her determination to provide for her mother and teenage son on her own.

Josefina is destined to gain recognition as one of the first master female weavers in Oaxaca and is already much collected. She has had to work under difficult circumstances and in my opinion, her works are some of the better values that I carry in my inventory.

She excels at pictorial design weavings, especially village and countryside scenes. Since being able to weave curved lines is the hardest thing to weave correctly, it only takes a few seconds to see that Josefina's talent and skill at weaving these curved lines is superior.
